This dazzling piece of jewelry is crafted from 14k yellow gold, and is an antique from the Georgian era (circa 1812-1819). The abalone double sided cameo carving depicts the American naval officer Captain Oliver H. Perry on one side and the back a tableau of draped flags. His heroic deeds from the war of 1812 earned him the nickname “The Hero of Lake Erie”.
One electronically tested 14KT yellow gold hand made antique cameo pendant with a polished finish. The Abalone MOP, double sided Memorial Pendant is Circa 1812-1819, the Georgian Period. The memorial cameo depicts Oliver H. Perry, Capt. U.S.N.. Perry was Captain of a small fleet of US Navy ships on Lake Erie in Sept. 10, 1813 and defeated a larger British fleet. In his victory report to his superiors he stated "We have met the enemy and they are ours". The front of the pendant depicts Perry , in profile, with the reverse depicts a tableau of draped flags, canon, a fasces and laurel wreath. Perry was hailed as "The Hero of Lake Erie". Perry lived from 1785-1819. The pendant measures 43.94 mm X 33.86 mm. The piece is designed in the style of a "Spinner" seal fob. The upswept arms terminate on a shell motif finial with a swivel bail on an iron pin. There is minor, period Lead repair on the top edge of the frame. Condition is excellent.
